Fear not when death comes to call…
It will take you to another world
Free from the burden of the body.
A place of indescribable beauty,
Infinite possibilities, and profound opportunity.
Fear not, for you will be delivered into loving hands.
I want to share this beautiful poem about prayer by the Native American poet, Joy Harjo. It was not titled by the poet.
To pray you open your whole self
To sky, to earth, to sun, to moon
To one whole voice that is you
And know that there is more
That you can’t see, can’t hear
Can’t know except in moments
Steadily growing, and in languages
That aren’t always a sound but other
Circles of motion
Like eagle that Sunday morning
Over Salt River. Circled in blue sky
In wind, swept our hearts clean
With sacred wings.
We see you, see ourselves and know
That we must take the utmost care
And kindness in all things.
Breathe in, knowing we are made of
All this, and breathe, knowing
We are truly blessed because we
Were born, and die soon within a
True circle of motion,
Like eagle rounding out the morning
Inside us.
We pray that it will be done
In beauty.
In beauty.
Mystic Forest

I hear a distant voice calling.
Like an echo in the woods.
I pay no attention
But it keeps coming back
Like a poem’s refrain.
It’s telling me there is more.
That there is more than what I see all around me.
More to be done than simply satisfy my own selfish needs.
It’s telling me that I am so much more than this body of mine.
That I am so much more than my puny mind allows me to believe.
The voice is telling me that I have infinite potential
And great power as yet untapped.
It calls me to a more noble
And meaningful existence.
An echo in the woods…
Do you hear it?

What is this heavenly radiance I see before me with such uncanny beauty?
It is like a sky full of stars, but it is morning.
The light emitted is bright, beautiful, wondrous, and other worldly,
so much so that I find myself trying to catch my breath.
I cannot take my eyes off the dazzling display
of what looks to be sparkling diamonds
and precious gems of all kinds
with fire like I have never seen before.
Hundreds of water droplets clinging to a screen
have caught the early morning light, just so…
resulting in refraction of the light, just so…
Each droplet sparkles and pulsates with its own unique color.
All shades and hues of a panoply of colors can be seen
more vivid and vibrant than I could have ever imagined.
Is this how the universe of stars would look
if the dust and light years between us were removed?
Or is this the quality of light seen in the heavenly realms?
But alas, the gentle morning sunbeams that gave light, just so…
impinging on ordinary droplets of water at an angle, just so…
giving birth to such incredible beauty…
must now give way to a rising sun
and I am quickly transported back to earth.
Exhilarated by what I have just seen,
I realize that there is so much more
beyond ordinary perception.
Another world of unimaginable wonders.
A revelation that was given, just so…

I love the golden morning light.
It’s warm glow so beautiful.
And when it touches me
It feels so soft and satisfying,
Like a lover’s caress.
I imagine that the hand of God is touching me.
That I am amidst His presence
And feeling His loving embrace.
As the golden morning turns to the brightness of a sun rising higher,
My spirit rejoices and I am filled with joy!
The gentle warmth of the early hours has set the tenor of my day!

I can imagine that God is like water…
I am certain that I see Him moving in the flow and swirls.
I feel Him all around me gently embracing every part of me.
I am weightless in His arms as He buoys me up
so that I keep site of the destination ahead.
He carries me when I am tired.
He is forgiving as I move through His ethereal essence.
Turbulent when His natural flow is resisted.
He slows my forward movement
to assure my progress is deliberate and considered.
I am certain that I hear Him gently calling me
to surrender to the natural flow that will take me home at last!

Each of us has the potential to see the world through our spirit eyes. It is a choice we can make, but one that must come from purity of intent. That is, a desire to not only see as spirit, but to also live life according to what spirit shows us.

Who or What is God? I wondered about the nature of God, and when I sat down at the computer the verse below is what came out. The qualities that we imagine God or a higher being would have are to some extent ineffable, a paradox, enigmatic, and most certainly beyond our limited awareness and understanding.
An Ineffable Paradox
I am the uncreated One.
I cannot be created or destroyed.
I exist apart from the bounds of space and time.
I am beyond beginning and end
For I have always existed and always will.
I am both the Creator, and that which I created
For I made everything in heaven, Earth, and the universe.
I am everywhere and in all things.
I can transform myself into countless forms.
Yet, I am without form.
I am unknowable and unseen, but everywhere you look.
I am Love which is testimony to my existence!
I am what I am.

On the occasion of the first year anniversary of this blog site I am republishing a verse I wrote a long time ago and that was one of the first entries in this blog. It likens our spirituality to rays of light that we too often shut away. And having hidden our spirit-self deep inside, it continually seeks release and expression.
The Light Inside You
For only a few fleeting moments
Have I felt the warm light of you—
Of what is inside of you.
Those moments were like rays of light
Peeking through the cracks of a door
In a dark room.
I am in the darkness alone,
Longing to know
What lies on the other side of the door.
Yearning to feel the touch
Of the warm and beautiful
Light that lies there.
But the door is locked,
The key to its opening
Unknown to me.
I will wait—
Yes, wait patiently
For the next beam of light
To spill through the cracks.
Longing to know
To understand
To embrace
The wonderful light
That shines inside of you.

It is my belief that no matter who you are, what kind of a person you are, or what kind of life you live, there have been moments when your spirit was able to squeeze through the cracks in the walls you may have built around yourself. The fortresses we build to protect ourselves are always flawed and conquerable from within and without.
Our spirit-selves, that some of us try to hold captive in the darkness of our fears, doubt, and insecurities, yearn—no demand expression. It is like trying to hold your breath until you pass out; you cannot do it. Similarly, no matter how hard you try to cling to the material world and deny your spirituality, your spirit will always seek to show you a better way.
If you accept the notion that your spirit is what gives you life and your spirit-self is the real you, then you can see that your spirit must be allowed to express itself. Otherwise, are you really alive?
I believe that we are all spiritual beings. We, and those around us, look for evidence of this in us and in themselves. They are searching for the warm and beautiful light emanating from others and hope to find within themselves. Perhaps we do not realize that all we have to do is open the door, even if only a crack at first.

I Am Spirit.
I have existed before time began
And I will exist after the end of time.
I am you and you are me.
I am a victim of doubt, skepticism, and ignorance.
I am present in bodies with minds that do not recognize me.
I give you life—yet, you do not truly live.
I am love—yet, you do not share me widely.
I am compassion—yet, you hide my light deep inside.
I am generous—yet, you do not give to those who are needy.
I give you knowledge, but you refuse to believe.
I show you the Path, but you turn away and choose another.
I provide good counsel, but you do not listen.
I Am Spirit.
I am you, and you are me.
One day you will awaken to me
And our glorious light will shine upon all the world!

As with other spiritual verses I have published on this blog and elsewhere, I was compelled to sit in front of the computer and wait for the words to start flowing. The message here is clear: we must understand and believe that we exist as spirit, and not neglect or be afraid to express our divine qualities.
